To be mindfull and to be present. In this blog we will consider what these ideas in philosophical terms mean. We will consider how to apply them in 2013, in a world that moves at a speed that, without understanding first what this philosophy suggests, makes the practice just out of reach for most of us.
To Consider MINDFULNESS and PRESENCE.
Mindfulness, and presence are both a way of paying attention to the present moment, and the practice is designed to help us become more aware of our thoughts and feelings in a way that facilitates a greater ability to manage them appropriately.
Mindfulness- bases practice allows people to gain more insight into their emotions, and to boost their attention and concentration, also to improve relationships.
Using mindfulness- based stress reduction therapy as a front line for relationship depression, it can also help with anxiety, the management of stress, and addictive behaviours, with evidence that that it can have a positive effect on physical problems such as heart disease, hypertension, and chronic pain.
Neuro science shows that after eight weeks of mindfulness training there are significant increases in grey matter concentration in brain regions, involved in learning and memory processes, emotional regulation, self referential processing and perspective taking.
Using both personally and professionally I think its worth looking into more , as now the therapy world has thrown this idea centre stage, to take a leap forward... to consider mindfulness and to practice it. For me personally its all about presence, and to be present. Easier said than done sometimes!
