CHINESE NEW YEAR OF THE DRAGON 2012

Chinese Yang Water Dragon 23rd January 2012 - 9th February 2013

Don't look back. Keep moving forward. Do not hesitate.

Dragon is a creature of myth and legend. In ancient China the celestial Dragon represents an Emperor and power. Today it is the ultimate auspicious symbol signifying success and happiness.

May the celestial Dragon bring good luck to everyone.

In the Sung Dynasty (dating from AD 960-1279) texts, the dragon is described as having a head of an ox, muzzle of a donkey, eyes of a shrimp, horns of a deer, body of a serpent covered with fish scales, and feet of a phoenix. The Dragon is yang and the yin Phoenix is complementary. Alternatively it can be seen with a horse head and snake tail.

Usually clutching a pearl, symbolic of its super-natural powers, it invariably is accompanied by thunder and whirlwinds; all powerful but totally unpredictable!

The only animal that is legendary in the Chinese zodiac, related to the Chinese calendar, the dragon is associated with the earthly branch symbol. Its elemental sign being water.

Most people know that water covers 2/3 of our planet & comprises 95% of our bodies; we simply cannot live without it. In Chinese element theory, water produces wood, which signifies growth, and is the natural element of the dragon.

The dragon governs east/southeast, wealth accumulation, and the hours of 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. Associated with thunder, lightning and arousal, the Water Dragon personifies creativity at its best.

Water Dragons occur every 60 years, so we have had Yang Water Dragons in 1952, 1892, 1832, 1772, 1712, 1652, 1592, etc. Too, the future holds more Water Dragons in the years beyond 2012, in 2072, 2132, 2192, 2252, etc.

In 2012 the Yang Water Dragon Year starts January 23, 2012 and ends February 9, 2013. The energetic high point of the year is the dragon moon, which is from May 20 to June 18 (new moon is May 20, full moon is June 4 and dragon moon is over June 18. beginning June 19 with the snake moon, which will set up the energy for the following 2013, year of the yin water snake.)

Dragons are legendary creatures in myth and folklore, typically portrayed as long scaled serpentine creatures with four legs. In contrast to European dragons, considered evil, the Chinese dragons traditionally symbolise potent and auspicious powers, particularly the control of water, rainfall, hurricane and floods. Also of power, strength and good luck; the Emperor of china usually uses dragon as a symbol of his imperial power and has a five toed or clawed dragon. Four clawed was for imperial nobility and certain high ranking officials, and three claws for general public. It was a capitol offence for anyone other than the emperor himself to ever use the completely gold-coloured, five clawed Long dragon motif.
